I just installed LS 2.0. In VS2008 I don't see the option to add a "LightSpeed Model" to my project. The option is installed according to the setup (and I have the Designer folder on the computer). Is there something I am missing? Another question: is there any document available on your site or elsewhere which compares LightSpeed 2.0 to other OR Mapping tools such as LLBL Gen Pro and/or nHibernate? Thank you, Nicola |

Hello Nicola, It sounds like Visual Studio has failed to update its template cache. Try running devenv /InstallVSTemplates from the command line. (You will need to be running as admin to do this, and if you are on Vista, you must do it from an elevated command prompt.) You can check whether the "LightSpeed Model" project item has installed correctly by looking in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplatesCache\CSharp\Data\1033 -- you should see a folder called LightSpeedModel.zip. If you do not see this, check in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\CSharp\Data\1033 (note "ItemTemplates" not "ItemTemplatesCache") where you should see a file called LightSpeedModel.zip. If you do not see this then let us know. If, after running devenv /InstallVSTemplates, you are able to create models but get mysterious HRESULT errors when working with them, run devenv /setup: this tells Visual Studio to re-register things like menu commands. (You may want to export your settings before doing this as VS sometimes messes up custom toolbars etc.) Let us know if you still see problems (or if you still see nothing at all...) after this. |

Hi from Germany, i have the same problem. I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition GERMAN VERSION. In the folder "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\VisualBasic\Data\1033" i have the Zip-File LightSpeedModel.zip And in the folder "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplatesCache\VisualBasic\Data\1031" is the folder LightSpeedModel. But i can not select a new item. If i right click on (i have translated von German to English) my Project and select "New Item..." und select "Data" on the left hand, then is nothing to select in the right side "LightSpeedModel". I have tried with "devenv /InstallVSTemplates" and my computer have works 1 Minute. But after start VS2008 i have not "LightSpeedModel" in "Add New Item...". Is this a problem with a german version of VS2008 ? In German it's the the name of "Data"-Folder ---> "Daten"-Folder. I hope you can help me and sorry for my broken english :-) EDIT: In the Samples i can open the LightSpeedModel-Designer. But i can't create a new. The Samples runs correctly. The Installation runs correctly but only "Add New Item..." have not your Designer-Template. Best regards from Germany |

Hello Andy, This does sound like a localisation bug. To confirm this, would it be possible for you to look in your ItemTemplates directory and see if there is a folder called Daten there. If so, could you move LightSpeedModel.zip from the Data\1033 directory to the appropriate subdirectory of Daten (wherever the, say, DataSet.zip file lives) and re-run devenv /InstallVSTemplates, and let us know if that works. Visual Studio doesn't seem to offer a language-independent API for installing templates (which is why we currently assume the English folder name) but if this does turn out to be the problem then I will investigate further. Thanks for your help in tracking this down! |

Hi Ivan, the Zip-File is correct in .../ItemTemplates/VisualBasic/Data/1033/ and in .../ItemTemplatesCache/VisualBasic/Data/1033/ i find all files in the Folder LightSpeedModel.zip But in VisualStudio 2008 Pro (German) i can't find LightSpeedModel if i click on "Add new Item..." in the "Data"-Folder. Only the standard from VS2008 (Linq2Sql and so on). I have no idea. LightSpeed is correct installed and i can use the samples. I can doubleclick in the Projectexplorer on a LightSpeedModel in your sample and the designer starts. Hope you have a idea. Best regards from germany |

Hi Andy, Could you have a look around in the ItemTemplates/VisualBasic folder and tell me where the LinqToSQL_VB.zip file is -- is it under Data\1033, Daten\1033, Daten\1031, etc.? Thanks! (I'm asking for one of the VS built-in zip files rather than ours because I'm trying to get a picture of how German VS2008 lays out its files. In fact, if you have time, could you also post a screenshot of the folder tree under ItemTemplates/VisualBasic? You can attach files via the Options tab. Thanks!) |

Hi Ivan, i hope i have not make a mistake in my last posts :-) I have search the LinqToSQL_VB.zip. But this file is not in Folder 1033. It is in 1031.And your zip-File is in 1033. Andy |

Thanks Andy. Could you now try moving LightSpeedModel.zip out of Data\1033 and into Data\1031. Then re-run devenv /InstallVSTemplates and see if you now see a LightSpeed entry in the New Item dialog. Thanks! |

Hi Ivan, i dont know is a bug or not. But i can say, your Zip-File was only from you in the 1033-Folders. You can see the screenshot in the attachment. Is this a problem with the german version of vs2008? Andy
